Ökotex 100 (does not mean organic)

Most products from Hansen Textile also adhere to the The Öko-Tex Standard 100 certification, which assures that textile products are tested to be free from harmful levels of more than 100 substances known to be detrimental to human health. The Öko-Tex restricted substances list (RSL) reflects the latest in textile chemistry and governmental regulations from around the world.

The certification is voluntary, is conducted by independent third party laboratories, and requires annual testing to remain valid. The Öko-Tex Association randomly purchases certified products on the open market and tests them to confirm that its standards are being maintained. However, Öko-Tex Standard 100 certification itself does not indicate that textiles are organically grown.

Organic garments

Hansen Textile is capable of offering organic products, certified according to the rules of Global Organic Textile Standards. Turkey is the world’s largest producer of organic cotton, and the global demand for environmentally friendly products is growing fast and steadily.

There are only good reasons for choosing organic garments. An endless number of studies and publications have verified the negative effect conventionally grown crops have on the environment. The use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers harm farm workers and farming communities through direct contact and contamination of the water source as a result of run-off.

The agriculture of organic cotton and other organic crops eliminates the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers while maintaining the quality of the produce.

To be certified as organic, the soil for the agriculture of organic cotton has to be free of chemicals for at least three years. Moreover, the farmers and processors are subject to annual inspections. Continuous research is done to control pests and weeds through crop rotation, the balance of the natural eco-system, maintenance of soil fertility, and the use of natural and biodegradable pesticides. Organic agriculture works with the environment rather than against it.
